Is having a solid Computer Science foundation per se enough to thrive in the IT industry?

A Computer Science (CS) degree undeniably equips us with the basic building blocks to be a great software engineer. It taught us how to analyse an algorithm in terms of its time and space complexity. We often denote them with a seemingly recherché notation called the Big-O Notation. The subjects that we use daily include, but not limited to, algorithm, data structure, database, indexing, and distributed system.

The course itself also taught us how to divide an insurmountable technical problem into small manageable pieces. Remember the divide and conquer technique that we learned in our freshman or sophomore year? …

Being rejected by our dream school or company is by no means a sign that we are not good enough. It merely means that it is not our time yet.

A high school in Chicago implemented a grading system where students were given the grade Not Yetwhen they failed to pass a course. This will, in turn, spurred the students learning interest as they were ascertained that their learning curve would improve progressively.

When we are ashamed of making a mistake, we have fallen into a fixed mindset. I was once very reluctant to speak or write in English because I used to tell myself that English is not my cup of tea. Yet, when I slowly embraced that “to err is human, to forgive divine”, I have started…

Successful leaders like Mark Zuckerberg, Warren Buffet, Elon Musk, and Bill Gates are voracious readers.

Nerd is the moniker that we give to those people who read voraciously. Some of us might even consider that these people lead a lacklustre life because they spend most of their time reading books. Little did they know that some of the world’s high achievers are avid readers.

When was the last time we pick up a book? Was it a month ago or a year ago? What makes those people who read routinely get an edge over those who don’t read? How do we learn to be like one of them and reap the benefits of reading?

Graduating during a pandemic is beyond our control, but our attitude towards it is within our control.

Photo by Sebastian Herrmann on Unsplash

Finding a job during a pandemic, especially for fresh graduates, is a catch-22 for most people. The unvarnished truth is that most companies prefer to hire people with experience. The question is: how can a fresh graduate get any work experience if no one is willing to give him/her an opportunity?

The mere experience a fresh graduate has is his/her mini projects or a few short internships. These are patently unparalleled with other job seekers who have at least 2–3 years of industrial experience under their belt.

I will be sharing about Pengacaramu recent recruitment drive and what I thought…

An artwork that took me more than a week to complete

Virtually all of the industries — aviation, tourism, hospitality, etc. — have been affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. We have also witnessed the desperate attempts of some of the leading tech unicorns to reduce their expenditure. The shrinking workforce and the introduction of pay cuts are the manifestations of those attempts. The general public might consider this period as the worst time to run or start a startup.

This is the story of a fledgeling tech-entrepreneur who attempts to go against the tide. …

The advancement of AI indeed has the potential to disrupt the labour markets, albeit it will never replace the love & care of our families and friends.

Four years ago, the world was taken aback when the world Go champion, Ke Jie, lost his battle. He lost the fight against an AI algorithm candidly named AlpaGo.

It heralded an era in which machines have transcended human abilities to comprehend and process the information around us. Although Machine Learning has been around for a few decades, our computing power could not handle the massive amount of data back then.

The third industrial revolution utilised electronics and information technology to automate the labour-intensive tasks from the previous industrial revolution.

The current industrial revolution — or better known as Industry…
